You’ll be able to stream compatible titles at 1080p with PlayStation Now starting this week, depending on your territory. Sony’s said that moving forward it will support higher resolution streaming on its subscription service, improving the overall image quality in titles that output at full high-definition or above.
“The rollout will occur over the next several weeks across Europe, US, Canada, and Japan, where PlayStation Now is available,” the firm said. Prior to this change, streaming has always been locked to 720p, although the manufacturer had previously promised that its goal was to bump this to 1080p. Mission accomplished!

more sony news please
Don’t care about streaming, it will always be inferior due to connection issues. Please just put work into emulation so we can download natively.
The one exception is that I would be interested in streaming to my phone when out and about (strictly turn based or narrative games) maybe they could work on that.
Glad to hear Now may be released in more countries though, then we won’t have to listen to people say “but it’s not in my country” every time we have legitimate complaints about game duplication with plus.
Also, because it might foretell a plus integration, which would require Now being available everywhere Plus is.
Can we get another free trial to test it out?
Ps now in India..... Pl
Sony is actually improving PS Now a bit. Nice.
@thefourfoldroot no argument here except to say some improvement is better than none at all.
Great news actually. At least for those of us in countries that have it. Does anyone know if it’s just PS4 games supported in 1080p or PS3 too?
Now if they actually made an effort for PS5 games on it.
So does this apply to PS3 games or just PS4 games?
This is actually a great step in the right direction. When I've played PS3 games via streaming you can tell that the quality is degraded compared to playing them on the PS3 itself. Of course, I'd much rather have an improvement on lag, latency, performance etc. I've tried playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and I just can't do it, with a game like that you need maximum response.
If this applies to PS3 games then this is great! If is just PS4 games then what took them so long?!
Nice. Streaming is the future 😎
I always download when possible but it’s good to know the quality of the streaming is improving.
Personally, I still feel like PS Now is not entirely worth it right now. I still think Sony should just combine PS Now and PS Plus. That would be the best GamePass contender by far.
While it's a nice development, I have to notice that :
"where PlayStation Now is available"
Then maybe start with making it available in more countries then...
I'm still waiting for a download option for those PS3 games before I jump on PS Now.
At least this shows that they're working on improving the service
@nessisonett How’s many games on PS3 natively outputted to 1080p?
@Snake_V5 I also think ng2 ran at 60fps...tight arcade style twitch gaming doesn’t seem to be streaming’s friend.
Any update on when the rest of the world gets access?
I’m a UK’er living abroad, I’ve got access to PS4 downloadable games on PS Now, but streaming doesn’t work. Would be nice if I could stream. Haha.
@nessisonett - Barely any PS3 games are 1080p and an awful lot are sub 720p, I think it's a safe bet they will always stream at 720p or less.
😂😂😂😂 seriously. i download and install via game pass. streaming games? whats this mess 2009 onlive tried this. not everyone can stream sony. download snd install dont fix it if it aint broke.
@stinkyx For realz XD
@RBMango would be a gamechanger, but not likely unless sony has secretely been working on a ps3 emulator.
Still waiting for the service to even exist in Brazil
@Mad001 you do realize that users could download PS2 and PS4 games from PS Now since 2018, right? Streaming is just an additional option (though required for PS3 games), and it's now in 1080p while xCloud is still capped at 720p.
Also while Game Pass Ultimate provides streaming via xCloud, the service costs 3 times what PS Now costs ($60.00 USD per year for PS Now with both downloads AND streaming vs $180 USD per year for Game Pass Ultimate).
personally as a user of PSNOW ive never really had a problem the ps3 stuff all streamed fine and looked like ps3 games should. The ps4 stuff i downloaded so all fine there to.
Wow, I've never used Now but I had always assumed that 1080 was the standard for it. Better late than never, I suppose.
@namuseki I don’t know if some people genuinely don’t know about downloading PS4 games or if they really do enjoy basking in the lie.
@KayOL77 @Shigurui Even then, a higher streaming resolution means less compression if you have good enough internet. A 720p game streaming at 1080p will look better than a 720p stream.
@Snake_V5 - Out of sheer curiosity I played NG Sigma 2 from start to finish recently on PSNow and had almost no issues with it whatsoever. The Gigadeath boss was really rough but it's kinda rough played on disc too.
I was genuinely surprised at how well it played via stream. NG3 RE had horrific lag spikes though. That game was borderline unplayable at times.
@Mad001 you can download aswell as stream
The technology is getting there. In just a few more years it will be completely normal to stream games in the same way that we stream videos and movies. Good to see Sony still hasn't given up on this.
Streaming is strange mixed bag for me, Sonic Adventure works great, really responsive and sharp. Sonic Adventure 2.....borderline unplayable with awful input lag.
Ps Now works fine with me. I don't understand why everyone complains about the slow connections. I have a 500mbit connection and everything runs smoothly. But I live in the Netherlands. Of course, I don't know what internet connections are like in the rest of the world.
PS Now has been getting better slowly, but surely.
@KayOL77 Not sure but there were a few PS3 games that output 1080p - the more untaxing games, such as the Lego titles.
@namuseki hi bud i pay £132 a year on xbox ultimate im not much interested on xcloud, ive pc gaming with gears and stuff ive a ps3 with ps2 comparability. im all good for PlayStation Xboxs backwards compatibility and with e.a play ive all i need playstation doesnt offer anything better just how i feel. but if you have psnow enjoy 👍 have a nice weekend.
